In Tokyo, 8 more cases of infection with a new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) have been identified among persons accredited for the Summer Olympics.
The total number of cases of infection with a dangerous infection at the Games thus reached 79, the Organizing Committee reported.
Among the infected is an athlete who does not live in the Olympic Village on the coast of the capital.
Also among the patients with coronavirus – 4 people from a number of regions of the country, where training camps of athletes are held.
In March 2020, it became known that foreign spectators would not be admitted to Tokyo 2020. Later, the organizing committee announced that the tournament would be held without spectators at all. Only athletes, members of federations, media workers will be admitted.
The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which were postponed to 2021 amid the pandemic, will be held from July 23 to August 8.
