Contacts between Paris and Moscow have become “less intense,” French President Emmanuel Macron admitted in an interview with France 5 TV channel. He explained this by the election campaign in France and the disclosure of the facts of the massacre of civilians in Bucha.
Emmanuel Macron admitted in an interview with France 5 that in recent weeks his dialogue with Moscow has been, in his words, “less intense”. “One of the reasons is that the war took on a different dimension after the massacre in Bucha and other cities became known,” the French president said.
According to him, the dialogue “stalled”. “After the massacres that were uncovered in Bucha and other Ukrainian cities, the war took a different turn, so I have not spoken to him directly since then,” Macron said in an interview.
Keeping in touch is important for the world
The French President argued that maintaining contact with the Kremlin is necessary to ensure peace negotiations: – Our task is to be the guarantor of this future. I think it is important for the European powers to be part of this process and not trust the negotiations to others, he explained.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the President of France has repeatedly telephoned the President of Russia, for which he has been criticized by part of the French political class and European leaders.
Departure to Kyiv is possible
When asked if he plans to visit Kyiv, the French leader replied that he would visit the Ukrainian capital if his visit would bring something useful.
