Doctors were shocked after an 88-year-old Frenchman arrived at the hospital with a World War I bomb lodged in his rectum, the Daily Mail reports.
An elderly man arrived at the Sainte Musse hospital in Toulon, southern France, on Saturday night hoping to have an 8-inch artillery shell removed from his anus.
His arrival caused panic as hospital authorities feared the antique explosives would detonate.
Explosives experts determined that the risk of a projectile exploding inside a person was negligible.
After removing it from the man’s rectum, doctors measured the projectile – 20 cm long and more than 5 cm wide.
It is not known why the projectile hit the man’s anus.
