Which European countries are the easiest to obtain citizenship in?

The Canadian immigration agency CanadaCIS has published a list of countries in Europe where it is easiest to obtain citizenship. SchengenVisaInfo tells you more.

According to the study, between 2009 and 2021, Sweden is recognized as the most favorable country for granting citizenship, regardless of EU membership. Approximately every tenth applicant receives approval from Sweden.

The list also includes countries such as the Netherlands, Iceland, and Portugal. Moreover, in Portugal, 6.6 percent of residents of third-world countries receive citizenship. That is, every third out of fifty applicants becomes the owner of a Portuguese passport.

The study also identifies those countries where it is most difficult for visitors from third-world countries to obtain citizenship. It turned out that Estonia issues status to only 0.5 percent of applicants. Moreover, men are more often denied a passport than women. It is also not easy to become a citizen of Latvia, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania.
