Ukraine has finally filled out the application form for EU membership, Igor Zhovkva, deputy head of the presidential office of Ukraine, said, Reuters reports.
During her visit to Kyiv on April 8, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen submitted a questionnaire to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, after which the European Commission will be able to recommend Ukraine to the society to the EU Council.
Today I can say that the document was fully prepared by the Ukrainian side, Zhovkva told Ukrainian state television late in the evening.
We expect that the recommendation will be positive, and then the ball will be on the field of EU member states, he said.
Zhovkva added that Ukraine expects to receive the status of an EU candidate country in June during the European Council.
Then we will have to start accession negotiations. And as soon as we start these negotiations, we will be able to talk about full membership in the EU,” he said.
On April 8, Von der Leyen stated that “it will not take years, as usual, but only weeks to form an opinion on the procedure.”
