The EU will suspend the visa facilitation agreement with Russia. This was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto following a meeting with ministers from other countries. She passed today in Prague.
On the agenda was the issue of a complete ban on the issuance of Schengen to Russians, but the EU countries could not agree on this measure. Many foreign ministers were against it.
Note that the document in question is dated 2006. It sets the terms for consideration of applicants’ documents from 10 to 30 days, and in emergency cases – up to 3 days. In addition, the agreement fixed the cost of the visa fee – 35 euros. It is assumed that after the cancellation, this amount will increase (according to one of the versions, up to 80 euros), and the processing time will also increase. In addition, it is possible that multiple entry visas will become exotic. However, in the event of the cancellation of the general agreement, visa rules will determine specific countries, so it cannot be ruled out that there will be no significant changes at the level of states loyal to Russian tourists.
