The new permit system for visiting EU countries, the so-called European Travel Authorization System (ETIAS), will not be launched in 2024, as previously planned, but in mid-2025.
According to the EU, through this system, about 1.4 billion people from more than 60 countries with visa-free entry into the EU will be required to obtain permission to enter 30 European countries for short-term stays.
The list of countries that you will have to enter under ETIAS also includes Bulgaria, Romania and Cyprus.
With an entry permit obtained through the ETIAS system, it will be possible to stay in any EU country for up to 90 days in each six-month period.
At the same time, despite the presence of ETIAS, foreigners must undergo border control with document checks.
The electronic ETIAS permit is expected to be issued for three years or until the expiry date of the passport.
