The main award of the Access City Award 2024 went to the city of San Cristobal de la Laguna on the island of Tenerife, Spain. More details are provided by the European Commission.
The city was recognized for its comprehensive approach to accessibility and its commitment to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. For example, all vehicles and all stops on the city’s tram network are fully accessible, and acoustic traffic lights and tactile surfaces have been installed in the city center to help visually impaired people.
In second place is the city of Lodz, Poland. In third place is Saint-Quentin, France.
The Access City Award has been held since 2010. The prize recognizes European cities that make accessibility a priority.
