Foreigners will be able to acquire agricultural land in Croatia next year without any restrictions.
According to the latest news, from July 1, 2023, foreigners will no longer be subject to strict rules and restrictions when purchasing agricultural land.
Recently, the interest of foreigners, mainly large corporations, in buying agricultural land in Croatia has increased significantly. Experts note that as soon as the new land begins to be used, there will be business interest in solar energy.
Today, Croatia has the cheapest land prices in the European Union, around 3,400 euros per hectare of cultivated land. On the other side of the list is the Netherlands – about 70,000 euros per hectare. This is the highest price in Europe.
Since the cost of a cultivated hectare in Croatia is significantly lower than in other EU countries, we can expect a large number of foreigners to come.
Recall that Croatia may soon become a member of the Schengen area and start using the euro currency. This will make it much easier for foreigners to enter the country and purchase land.
Croatia expects to enter Schengen on January 1, 2023. Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said that the country had fulfilled all the requirements for this and added that he was ready to provide additional clarifications on this matter.
A committee of the European Parliament is expected to give a positive opinion on this issue in the coming weeks after assessing how well Croatia meets criteria such as border protection and migration management.
At that time, some forces call on the EU authorities to deny Croatia: the illegal and forced return of asylum seekers and migrants should deprive Croatia of the right to enter the Schengen area.
