Mainland China has reported more than 1,000 new coronavirus infections in dozens of cities, the highest number recorded daily since the pandemic began, Reuters reported.
The Omicron option forced authorities in the northeastern city of Changchun to impose a quarantine, and all schools in the financial center of Shanghai were closed.
Despite the record, there are far fewer new infections in China than in other countries. At the same time, according to Reuters, the increase in cases could prevent Beijing from “dynamically cleaning up” to stop the spread of the virus as quickly as possible.
Measures have been taken in several cities where infections have been reported, such as carrying out numerous mass population tests, restricting vehicle access to highways, canceling face-to-face classes in schools and indoor recreational activities.
Meanwhile, China’s financial center, Shanghai, said it would close all elementary, middle and high schools tomorrow. Schoolchildren and students will have to switch to distance learning. Kindergartens and preschools in Shanghai will also cancel their classes.
