China has said it opposes excluding Russia from the upcoming G20 summit being considered by Washington over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, AFP reported.
“Russia is an important member of the G20, and no member state has the right to persecute another,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told reporters.
Close to the Kremlin, with which they share a common hostility to the United States, the Chinese regime has refrained from condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, recalls AFP.
The West is preparing new sanctions against Russia, which will be discussed tomorrow in Brussels within NATO, the G-7 and the European Union.
Yesterday, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan mentioned the possible exclusion of Russian President Vladimir Putin from the group of 20 largest economies in the world, whose summit is scheduled for November in Indonesia.
