According to the country’s health agency, Canada has fined two travelers who arrived in Toronto from the United States nearly $ 20,000 each for failing to comply with entry requirements.
The travelers provided false information regarding evidence of vaccination and pre-departure tests and failed to comply with the requirements related to post-arrival testing and living in government-approved premises, the agency said.
Four fines amounted to $ 19,720 for each traveler. According to the agency, the travelers arrived in Toronto on July 18.
“All travelers arriving in Canada are required by Canadian law to answer all questions truthfully,” the press release said.
According to the Public Health Agency, fines for providing false information about vaccination status can be as high as $ 750,000, six months in prison, or both.
The government introduced some exceptions on July 5 for fully vaccinated travelers entering Canada with simplified quarantine and testing requirements, and on August 9, fully vaccinated Americans will be admitted to the country for minor travel if they meet all government requirements.
Regardless of vaccination status, all travelers will still need a movid test for Covid-19 before entering, but after August 9, most vaccinated travelers will not need to take the test upon arrival.
The mandatory three-day stay at the hotel will be canceled for all travelers arriving by plane on August 9, and fully vaccinated travelers will be exempt from quarantine.
On September 7, Canada plans to open access to all fully vaccinated travelers who have been vaccinated with a vaccine received in Canada and who meet all of the country’s entry requirements.
