Gazprom is suspending natural gas supplies to Bulgaria, the Energy Ministry has said.
Today, April 26, Bulgargaz EAD received a notification that natural gas supplies from Gazprom Export LLC will be suspended from April 27, 2022.
This was reported by the press center of the ministry.
The Bulgarian side has fully fulfilled its obligations and made all payments required under this agreement in a timely manner, strictly and in accordance with its clauses.
After analyzing the state company Bulgargaz and the Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH), it was found that the new two-stage payment procedure proposed by the Russian side does not comply with the current agreement until the end of this year and creates significant risks for the Bulgarian side, including making payments without receiving any – or gas supplies from the Russian side.
The Ministry of Energy, the Bulgarian Energy Holding, Bulgargaz and Bulgartransgaz have taken steps to create alternative mechanisms for natural gas supplies and resolve the situation.
Currently, no restrictive measures are required for consumption in Bulgaria.
Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov will make a statement in connection with the current situation tomorrow, April 27, at 09:00 in the building of the relevant ministry at ul. Trinity, 8.
This was stated by the press secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers Lena Borislava.
And the Deputy Prime Minister is aware of the situation, and there is no reason for panic and concern.
“Such a scenario was discussed in February, and we are ready to respond. There are agreements on alternative supplies, everything is provided,” Borislava emphasized.
