The Schengen zone no longer functions – the president of the country, which is not allowed to enter Schengen, made such an indignant statement. We are talking about Romania – with such a statement, as reported by Schengen Visainfo, its president Klaus Iohannis made a speech before the European Council.
Thus he decided to lash out in response to Austria’s ongoing opposition to the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen area. “Austria’s arguments regarding its country’s membership in the boundless space are opaque,” he added.
We will remind you that Austria opposes the expansion of the Schengen zone at the expense of Romania and Bulgaria. In addition, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehhammer said that the Schengen area needs to be reformed, stressing that as long as even the internal security rules do not work, there is no point in expanding it further. We will remind you that the main reason for Austria’s refusal is problems with migrants who can bring the mentioned countries to Schengen.
In addition, the President of Romania also stated that the Schengen Agreement practically no longer exists. This comes after several countries re-imposed border controls due to immigration and the situation in the Middle East.
