The NCA news agency reports that in Australia, a crocodile attacked a woman resting on Lake Argyle. The victim was hospitalized, the reptile was shot dead.
The incident took place in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. A crocodile 2.5 m long grabbed the leg of a 38-year-old woman swimming in the lake with her teeth, but she managed to escape. She is in the hospital with serious injuries.
The park security patrol tracked down the crocodile and shot it dead. The decision to eliminate the reptile was made, in particular, due to the fact that swimming competitions were to be held on the same lake in a week.
Authorities are reminding residents and tourists that feeding and contact with crocodiles is strictly prohibited.
According to the ABC television channel, about 35,000 crocodiles live in Lake Argyle, they feed on fish. The last time a crocodile attacked a person in this place was in 2009, when a 52-year-old man was injured.
