18 dead whales found in Argentina

TN TV channel reports that 18 dead whales were found in Argentina near the Valdez Peninsula, which is popular with tourists.

According to scientists, the whales could have been poisoned by algae, but the exact causes of the death of these marine inhabitants are being clarified.

The bodies of juvenile and adult whales have been found near the Valdes Peninsula, where thousands of tourists come from June to December to watch these animals up close.

The poisoning may have been due to harmful algal blooms “since very high levels of biotoxins have been found in plankton and bivalve samples from the area.”

Blooming poisonous algae are a worldwide problem. In 2015 alone, they killed 300 whales in Chile. The cause of the bloom is an increase in ocean temperature caused by emissions from industries and farmland where fertilizers are used.
