The authorities of the United Arab Emirates are getting rid of the stickers with resident visas in the passports of foreigners – starting from April 11, these functions will be performed by the Emirates ID.
The information was confirmed by the UAE Federal Authority for Identification, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security. The Emirates ID card will contain information about the status of a resident visa after passing a medical test.
Thus, a whole page will be freed up for residents in their passports – it can be used for stamping while traveling. Various agencies and departments will now identify residents using their passport number and Emirates ID.
The authorities took this action following the transition to a new generation of ID cards containing new features, including a 3D image using laser printing technology showing the date of birth of the cardholder.
All citizens and residents are required to have an identity card. The card has a unique number and is required to access government services and when going through passport control at airports.
In June 2021, officials said that residents applying for a new ID (when renewing) can use the digital copy until they receive the plastic card itself.
