The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a letter to the US Congress approving the sale of F-16 combat aircraft to Turkey.
On March 17 of this year, the US administration sent a letter to Congress, which noted that the sale of F-16 combat aircraft to Turkey is considered appropriate.
“The Turkish Armed Forces are the second strongest NATO army. Turkey has been working together with NATO partners for many decades. Turkey’s unequivocal position in support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine is of great importance for maintaining stability in the region. Turkey was sanctioned after its acquisition of the S-400 in Russia, but it has paid the full price for these sanctions. In the new reality, the sale of the F-16s is “considered expedient,” the letter says.
The US government believes that the deal to sell a batch of F-16s to Turkey serves US economic and political interests.
On March 10, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a conversation with US President Joe Biden, during which he proposed to consider the sale of 40 units of F-16 combat aircraft and the modernization of Turkey’s aircraft of this type.
According to the export procedure, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends a letter to Congress with the contents of the deal. If Congress does not object to the export of weapons within 30 days, the US administration will make an appropriate decision on the sale.
