A magnitude 7.2 earthquake shook the coast of Haiti. This was announced on Saturday by the US Geological Survey.
The epicenter was located 12 km northeast of the village of Saint-Jean-du-Sud.
The tremors were felt by residents of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, who ran out into the street in panic.
The epicenter was at a depth of 10 km.
The threat of a tsunami was not announced.
