The UAE authorities intend to build the largest airport in the world in Dubai by expanding the Al Maktoum air harbor, known as Dubai World Central. Details of the updated project with five runways, one of which will be completely given to the Airbus A380, are published on the website of the UAE government. According to calculations, the new hub will be able to serve from 160 to 260 million passengers a year by 2027. However, it will not replace the main Dubai International Airport (DXB), they are planned to be connected by high-speed rail.
According to Airports Council International (ACI), Dubai Airport has held the lead in the number of passengers from other countries for 3 years in a row, in 2021 there were more than 21 million of them, the data is given on the website of the organization.
The current record for the total number of passengers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport (is 75.7 million people in 2021).
The authorities of Saudi Arabia also want to create the most significant international hub, they announced this at the end of November last year. It is planned that the new air harbor in Riyadh will be able to serve up to 185 million people a year. This is part of a larger plan to turn the country into a leader in the tourism industry in the Middle East.
