The world’s 100 best cities for tourism have been named in a study by Euromonitor International, which has unveiled the “Top 100 City Destinations Index 2023”. As the rating compilers explained, Euromonitor used 55 different indicators across six key categories. These include economic and business indicators, tourism indicators and infrastructure, policy and attractiveness, health and safety, and sustainability. The top ten mainly includes European cities, and in the first place, quite expectedly, is one of the most famous European cities among tourists — Paris.
Paris was named the best city in the world for the second year in a row. As the compilers of the ranking assure, the city is ready to “enchant visitors with a unique combination of historical grandeur and modern dynamism, which is further enhanced by preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games in 2024.” Paris ranked high “due to its exceptional performance in tourism policy and attraction, tourism infrastructure and tourism performance,” the company also said in a statement.
Seven European cities were included in the top ten, and a total of 63 were included in the ranking as a whole. Madrid (3rd place) was in the top ten, followed by Amsterdam (5th), Berlin (6th), Rome (7th), Barcelona (9th) and London (10th).
Also in the top ten were Dubai (2nd place), Tokyo (4th place) and New York (8th place). Only Tokyo was a “newcomer” — its inclusion in the top ten was explained by the improvement of tourism infrastructure, the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, and the weakening of the yen, which is of great value to foreign tourists.
In general, the top ten looks like this:
- Paris, France
- Dubai, United Arab Emirates
- Madrid, Spain
- Tokyo, Japan
- Amsterdam, Netherlands
- Berlin, Germany
- Rome, Italy
- NY
- Barcelona, Spain
- London, Great Britain
