The largest travel site Tripadvisor has compiled a list of the best attractions in the world.
According to the portal, the decision was made based on feedback and opinions from users over the past 12 months. The rankings emphasized that less than 1 percent of the 8 million properties on Tripadvisor receive the “Best of the Best” award.
More than half of the objects at the top are sights from Europe. The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona has been named the top tourist destination for 2023.
The top ten looks like this:
1. Sagrada Familia (Barcelona, Spain)
The iconic “always under construction” cathedral has been rated 4.5 stars out of five on the site based on over 166,000 reviews. The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is one of Antoni Gaudí’s most famous works and perhaps best known for still being built since 1882, with the work funded entirely by donations. The rating compilers recommend that tourists climb to the top of the towers to enjoy panoramic views of the city and ornate architecture.
2. Colosseum (Rome, Italy)
An ancient amphitheater was presented in 70 AD as a gift to the Roman people. As the most significant Roman theater ever built, it seated over 50,000 people and hosted gladiator fights, performances, and even public executions. The site’s experts advise buying tickets in advance online to avoid long lines or join any of the guided tours.
3. Anne Frank House (Amsterdam, Netherlands)
The Anne Frank House is a museum dedicated to a girl diarist from World War II. The building is located on the Prinsengracht canal, near the Westerkerk, in the center of Amsterdam. Visitors can experience the history through an audio tour, quotes, photos, videos, and original items. The Anne Frank House can only be visited with an online ticket for a specific date and time.
4. Dubai Fountain (Dubai, UAE)
Dancing to the music, the fountain shoots water to a height of 152 meters – this, for a minute, is the height of a 50-story building. The show performance of the Dubai Fountains, created by the authors of Bellagio in Vegas, takes place on the Burj Khalifa Lake daily.
5. Empire State Building (New York, USA)
The Empire State Building is the most famous in the world. It rises 443 meters from the ground and is the only open-air observation deck in Manhattan with a 360-degree view. On a clear day, up to 6 states can be seen from its height. The new museum on the second floor features a host of interactive exhibits taking visitors on a journey from the building’s construction to its current place in pop culture.
6. Musée d’Orsay (Paris, France)
The Musée d’Orsay is a must-see for art lovers and travelers alike. It is known for its impressive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, making it one of the largest in the world. Remarkably, the museum is located in a former railway station on the Seine and is just as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. The famous dial is part of the museum’s exposition. Tripadvisor experts advise visiting the museum in the morning to avoid the crowds and enjoy a more “quiet” art experience.
7. Eiffel Tower (Paris, France)
Although initially hated by many Parisians, the colossal monument, whose construction was completed in 1889, is now the most famous symbol of French civic pride.
8. Trevi Fountain (Rome, Italy)
Undoubtedly, this is the most famous and photographed fountain in Europe. Legend has it that whoever throws a coin at it will return to Rome. This tradition, widely spread among tourists, began with this fountain.
9. Central Park (New York, USA)
For more than 150 years, visitors have flocked to the 337 hectares of green space in the heart of Manhattan. Central Park is open from 6:00 am to 1:00 am daily. The compilers of the rating recommend visiting the official website of the park to learn more about the events and events taking place there, as well as find out how you can help the green island in the middle of the stone jungle.
10. Plaza of Spain (Seville, Spain)
Plaza de España is one of the most impressive places in Seville. This architectural ensemble, which will soon be 100 years old, impresses with its grandeur and beauty. The square is a semi-elliptical ensemble with a diameter of 250 meters, in the center of which there is a large beautiful fountain. A feature of the architectural ensemble is its design, made in two styles at once: Art Deco and Mudéjar.
