One of the world’s largest artificial reefs will be created in Dubai (UAE). The project, called Dubai Reef, aims to help restore coral reefs and marine biodiversity.
The Department of Economy and Tourism of the emirate said that as part of the Dubai Reef, it is planned to create artificial reefs of various sizes on an area of 600 square km. The total volume of reef modules will exceed 400,000 cubic meters, it will be able to capture more than seven 7 million tons of carbon annually.
It is expected that Dubai Reef will be created in 2024–2028. Artificial reefs will become home to a variety of marine life — sea sponges, oysters, clams, crabs, starfish, urchins, and many types of fish.
