Dubai and the UAE as a whole have strict laws on intimacy, homosexuality, and “abusive behavior” that apply to residents and tourists alike. The DailyStar edition warned travelers about the responsibility, up to the criminal one, for several actions in the United Arab Emirates.
The OnlyFans model recently made headlines when she hinted that she could create and post pornographic content from her room in Dubai. Fans warned the model to “be careful” and noted that laws on intimate relationships in UAE cities are strict. One user pointed out that creating content on OnlyFans in Dubai could lead to arrest.
In this regard, the publication DailyStar decided to remind readers that the rules on intimate relationships, homosexuality, and even intimacy before marriage are not the same in every country. Breaking local laws while on vacation can result in fines or jail time, even if the person doesn’t share it online.
In the UAE, tourists may face problems due to the:
Offensive behavior. This concept in the Emirates includes swearing and gestures of disrespect offline and online, public displays of affection, including kissing in public places. For the listed violators can be deported or arrested.
Sexual relations outside of marriage. Of course, the authorities do not look under every blanket, but, for example, in the case of pregnancy outside of marriage, there will be problems. Many insurances do not cover the cost of such a birth, a local birth certificate is issued only upon marriage by the parents or after the joint recognition of the child with the presentation of identification and travel documents according to the laws of the country where the tourist came from. In addition, if in the case of an extramarital relationship, the spouse, parent, or guardian of any of the participants files a complaint with the police, the violators face a prison term of at least 6 months. Also, a prison term awaits a partner who enters into a consensual sexual relationship with a person under 18 years of age. If both partners are under the age of 18, both face criminal liability, but punishment is usually limited to a warning, parental supervision, judicial review, or psychiatric treatment.
Relationships between people of the same sex. All homosexual relationships are illegal in the UAE and same-sex marriages are not recognized. Although society is generally tolerant and respects privacy, there have been cases of punishment of tourists for homosexual activity, especially if it was public or entailed a violation of morality.
Pornography. Any trade or commercial activity related to print pornography or adult films is considered a crime in the UAE. In addition, any kind of sexual content is not allowed to be transmitted, published on the Internet, or even viewed. Pornography cannot be stored on mobile phones, flash drives, or computers. If someone is caught sharing such content, they can be arrested and punished.
