According to the Daily Mail, the world’s largest cruise ship will be scrapped. It was never launched into the water.
We are talking about the Global Dream II liner worth $1.6 billion and with a capacity of 9,000 passengers.
The 392m long 20-deck liner was built by the German-Hong Kong shipbuilding company MV Werften, but the company went bankrupt due to the coronavirus pandemic in early 2022, and the ship was put up for sale. It never found a buyer, after which it was decided to put it into scrap metal. The previous vessel of the series – Global Dream I – is also still looking for a new owner.
Now both ships – Global Dream I and Global Dream II – are at the shipyard in Wismar, which was transferred to the German conglomerate ThyssenKrupp, where warships will be built from 2024. Thus, the fate of cruise ships should be decided before the end of 2023.
