Hotels in the Balearic Islands are required to remove most toiletries from their rooms under new tourism regulations in the Spanish Balearic Islands.
This means that when traveling to the Balearic Islands, such as Majorca, Menorca, or Ibiza, tourists will have to carry toothbrushes, shower caps, razors, and other accessories that used to be common in hotels.
The new Balearic Tourism and Sustainability Act stipulates that in the future it will be necessary to adapt to the criteria of environmental and social sustainability, or, in simple terms, to abandon all single-use plastic additions that create a large amounts of waste and hurt the environment.
The measure also aims to reduce the burden on maids, who will not have to carry all these products in their carts and constantly replenish them in the rooms.
Disposable cups or glasses, coffee capsules and sachets, tea, water bottles, wine, fruit, chocolate, sweets, and champagne bottles will also no longer be allowed in rooms. Tourists staying at hotels should also be aware that notepads, pens, and other stationery will no longer be allowed in rooms.
The authorities of the Balearic Islands introduced a new law back in 2022, but it will not enter full force until the full tourist season this year.
