Videos often appear on the network with loaders from the airport, who carelessly handle passengers’ luggage – throw it into a transport vehicle and drop it on the ground. Why such cases are not uncommon at airports, explained a former employee of the cargo complex.
With a high passenger flow on the territory of the air harbor, there is no time to disassemble luggage, he explains.
“This is especially true for major international airports. It doesn’t matter which country in the world we are talking about. When there is an influx, you need to load luggage quickly, there is no time to pickle with each particular bag taken. Whether a suitcase survives or not depends largely on its quality, material, and weight of luggage,” he says.
The expert noted that when promptness in work is in the first place, then there is no need to talk about accuracy:
“The same scheme of work in post offices. Packages are loaded in the same way with the speed of the wind. And if you decide to send something fragile or did not take care of the safety of the material, packing it somehow, prepare mentally for the fact that the addressee will receive a broken junk in a box, not a conventional cup or a souvenir.”
Passengers themselves can facilitate the work of employees of the cargo department of airports, the expert believes.
“You don’t need to pack a suitcase to the maximum allowed weight, it’s better to distribute things evenly in different bags. All loading work is carried out by people, not cars, so when you come across a suitcase weighing 20–30 kilograms, you don’t need to wait for accuracy. within a few seconds, pick it up and throw it into a truck.”
The specialist recommended putting fragile items in the center of the suitcase, overlaying it with soft things. When choosing the bag itself, preference should be given to the one with a replaceable handle and a tight body.
“By the way, the handle is considered the most vulnerable element, which most often breaks during transportation. Remember! The more things in a suitcase, the greater the load on the case and the handles for which you need to lift it.”
The expert added that employees simply throw a very heavy load to transport it as soon as possible and get rid of it. In conclusion, he stressed that all airports in the world work according to this scheme.
