What airlines don’t tell you: How sitting on the right side can give you more legroom

Dailymail has revealed a travel hack that allows passengers to enjoy slightly more legroom on planes. Interestingly, some airlines have asymmetrical seating arrangements: seats on the right side (D, E, F) often provide more legroom than those on the left (A, B, C).

Why does this happen?

According to research conducted by the consumer group Which?, certain airlines, including Ryanair and easyJet, have removed front storage compartments to fit extra rows of seats. As a result, legroom in the front section of the plane is not uniform. Passengers on the right side of the cabin may get an additional 1.2–2.5 cm of space.

How to check this?

  1. Find the aircraft type. Use Google Flights to search for your flight details, including the plane model.
  2. Review the seating plan. Visit AeroLopa, which provides seat maps and details about legroom.

Additional tips:

  • Ryanair: Most of their planes are Boeing 737s. On these planes, seats D, E, and F in rows 3–15 typically offer the most legroom.
  • easyJet: On this airline, seats on the right side (rows 3–13) may have a seat pitch wider by 2.5 cm compared to the rest of the cabin.
  • Wizz Air: Unfortunately, this trick does not apply to their aircraft.

Conclusion

If in-flight comfort matters to you, pay attention to seating arrangements. With a little research and a smart choice of seats, you can significantly improve your travel experience.
