Tourists were warned that Turkey is carrying out the largest anti-terrorist operation in the entire country. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country made a corresponding statement. At the same time, as specified by the law enforcement agencies, the operation is carried out in all cities of Turkey, including such popular ones among tourists as Antalya and Istanbul.
The reason for it was the terrorist attack on Sunday in Ankara. There, two terrorists in a stolen car drove up to the gates of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs building in the center of Ankara and detonated explosives. The fire was opened on the intruders, as a result, the terrorists were neutralized, there were no victims, and two policemen were lightly wounded. At the same time, the mass media and social networks managed to raise panic, even announcing a military coup.
After the terrorist attack, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the start of an anti-terrorist operation.
In total, more than 13,000 employees of the internal forces are involved in it. This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey, Ali Yerlikaya. The minister also reported that 12 suspects were initially detained, mostly in the cities of the provinces bordering Syria.
Later, the operation spread to the entire territory of Turkey, and no less than 55 suspects of terrorism were detained. Searches were conducted in Istanbul and Antalya.
