Tourists were explained how thieves use a pen to steal things from locked suitcases with a zipper

Travel blogger and travel expert Sarah Adekola has an important warning for tourists planning to vacation at resorts this summer. She shared valuable information about a new theft method that thieves use to open locked suitcases with zippers and padlocks using a regular handle. Her video on TikTok caused a wide response among travelers.

According to the expert’s explanation, thieves only need a handle to break a suitcase with a zipper. In the video, the girl demonstrated how easily and imperceptibly criminals can steal things from unsuspecting travelers. By inserting the handle into the zipper and applying slight pressure in the desired direction, a gap is created between the two edges of the zipper. And now the bag is easily opened, even if tourists used a padlock to close it.

Next, the specialist shared some useful tips on how tourists can protect themselves from this type of robbery. First, she recommended avoiding suitcases with zippers because they are vulnerable to ordinary stationery. Instead, preference should be given to suitcases made of hard materials, which protect things more reliably, rather than soft bags. Secondly, it is worth giving preference to luggage options on wheels, as they are more convenient to use and usually have a hidden zipper that is more difficult to break.

Adekola also advised us to pay attention to the brand. She advised choosing a manufacturer that offers a lifetime warranty or “at least a five-year warranty” to be sure of the product’s quality and reliability.

Also, if travelers are worried about how their luggage will be handled after they’ve checked it in at the airport, there’s an easy way to increase the chances of it being handled with care. Travelers can stick a “Fragile” label on their bags so that baggage handlers pay special attention to the item and handle it more carefully.

In the end, the specialist said that although experts recommend suitcases of such colors or designs that are easy to detect when returning, she prefers dark-colored bags and simply puts a bright sheet of paper under the wrapping.
