When going to a resort, you should take off all your rings and leave them at home – this is the recommendation given to tourists by jewelry expert Ben Roberts from the pages of the Express magazine. The reason is not theft, but problems with the body that arise due to hot weather.
“If you go abroad this summer, it will most often be much hotter there than in the northern countries, and many of us forget about the effects of hot weather on the body. Our fingers can swell quite a lot when it gets hot, which makes wearing rings almost impossible,” the expert noted and advised tourists who don’t want to vacation without jewelry to replace wedding rings with other jewelry, such as bracelets.
The jeweler also stressed the importance of taking safety precautions when traveling with valuables: travelers should take photos of their jewelry and belongings before departure and make an “inventory” of any items they choose to take with them on their trip.
“Sometimes, through sheer bad luck, our luggage can be lost or even checked by others. Making sure you know what you’ve packed is a great ‘receipt’ in case something bad happens to your luggage,” he advised. Valuables should also be transported in hand luggage in case the suitcases checked in are lost.
In addition, to avoid problems at security controls at airports, Roberts recommended wearing easily removable items and putting accessories with long chains through a straw, because, firstly, a tangled chain can greatly upset the vacationer, and secondly, it can save time and nerves at the airport.
“Going through security can be a fast and stressful process. Each airport is different, but in most cases, you will be asked to remove your jewelry, shoes, and accessories. But if there are many accessories, then it will not be possible to put them on quickly,” the expert noted.
