The authorities of the island warned beach lovers about the appearance of Portuguese boats off the coast – a type of poisonous jellyfish, Phuket News reports.
The warning was issued after more than 30 tourists complained of being bitten on Kata Beach last week. Vacationers are urged not to enter the water at the beaches of Patong, Nai Yang, and Surin, as well as at Cape Panwa, where there is a threat of being bitten by jelly-like creatures. Tourists should also be attentive to the flags set on the coast and follow the instructions of the lifeguards.
According to the Phuket Express, venomous sea creatures have been found on the beaches during the last monsoon season. They got their name because they resembled sailing ships. The venom of these jellyfish can cause severe burns, allergic reactions that can be fatal in some cases, and can also cause breathing problems, and cardiac arrest.
According to scientists, the main danger to humans is the toxic tentacles of jellyfish. In case of a bite, local rescuers recommend urgently washing the wound with seawater.
Some doctors advise using a saline solution: half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water. Salt will help neutralize the poison of the jellyfish and relieve pain.
To avoid unwanted encounters with marine life, the most important thing is to follow the rules and instructions of the lifeguards. By the way, yesterday in an Egyptian resort, a shark attacked a man and tore him to pieces in front of his father.
