A new reason for panic among tourists was given by a huge swimmer spotted in the Mediterranean waters of the most popular resort town of Kemer, located in the Turkish province of Antalya. Seeing the source of danger, some tourists “flew” out of the water onto the shore, and others began to throw stones at livestock. This was reported by the Turkish Mynet newspaper on July 12.
An idyllic resort vacation in Kemer was disturbed by a huge swimmer, which watchful vacationers spotted near the coast – just in the bathing area. In light of the recent tragic events in Egypt and the Galapagos Islands, vacationers mistook the fish for a man-eating shark. Many were overcome with fear, so they rushed to run away from the water without thinking, while others, standing up to their waists in the water, began to throw stones at the source of panic.
One of the witnesses was able to capture the beach chaos on video using a mobile phone. After the video was published on social networks, the recording became widely discussed. The footage showed people in the water spotting a fish with a fin swimming just off the shore and screaming to the shore. Although this footage caused heated discussions on the Internet, it later became known that the fish that approached the coast and frightened others with its appearance was a spearfish, which, if not attacked, does not pose a danger to humans. However, caution in the water never hurts.
Reference: Spearfish or arrowfish is a general name for a group of fish that have special anatomical features that allow them to swim with great speed and accuracy like arrows. They have an elongated body shape, flattened at the sides, and sharp, arrow-shaped scales to reduce water resistance.
The most famous representatives of spearfish are swordfish, also known as swordfish. They have an elongated body with an elongated upper jaw, on which there is a large sharp sprout that resembles a sword or a spear. This sprout is used for hunting prey and protection from predators.
The spearfish has a characteristic high and sharp fin – it is the dorsal fin – it is its tourists who can mistakenly perceive the fin of a bloodthirsty predator. It is elongated upwards and has an arrow-shaped shape, resembling a spear or a sword. The dorsal fin plays a key role in maintaining balance, maneuvering, and swimming at high speeds.
Kemer is a popular tourist location in Turkey. Its resort area includes Kirish, Tekirova, Heiniuk, Beldibi, and Chamyuva. The city is located 43 km from the international airport in Antalya.
