At the same time, tour operators do not record a strong increase in such requests. They reported that requests for hotels “with their lagoons and nets have come in before.” They also added that previously there were no such requests from the tour operator, but now questions about hotels with shark nets will appear. But there is still no sharp surge of interest, just as there are no cancellations and no decline in interest in tours to Hurghada, they add.
However, tourists were reminded that for now officially swimming in the sea and diving in Hurghada is prohibited. We will remind you, on Thursday, the whole of Hurghada was excited by a scary incident – a shark attack on a Russian tourist with a tragic ending. The tourist, according to some eyewitnesses, with a girl, swam quite deep when the attack of the predator happened, which was caught on video. “The girl managed to save herself, he took the hit on himself. It’s a terrible thing, where the remains of this guy lie. I’m shaking. Right in front of my eyes, the shark ate the boy. I think I need to drink 100 grams, I feel sick,” said an eyewitness to the attack, also a Russian tourist. Other witnesses claim that “the shark swam to the shore and dragged the tourist.” Later it turned out that the deceased is a Russian, 23-year-old Volodymyr P., who moved to Egypt a few months ago.
At the moment, all the beaches of the resort province of the Red Sea are closed – starting from El Gouna, until the south – almost to Safaga itself. “The competent authorities of the Red Sea will start implementing the decision of Major General Amr Hanafi, the governor of the Red Sea, to close the area stretching from the El Gouna area in the north to the Abu Souma Bay in the south,” Egyptian media reported. Sea excursions, diving, snorkeling, fishing, etc., are prohibited. Different sources determine the duration of the ban in different ways, from two to one week – that is, until June 15.
