Passengers at Glasgow Airport were evacuated on Monday while a “suspicious bag” was investigated by minesweepers and an explosives disposal team. Law enforcement officials say this is a precautionary measure and the investigation is ongoing.
Police attended the scene around 6 am this morning. Thousands of stranded passengers were taken to a nearby car park, the Daily Mail reported. Photos showed some of them wrapped in foil and blankets to keep warm, while the Salvation Army charity handed out hot drinks.
Royal Navy sappers were filmed at the scene at around 11 am local time.
Public transport to the airport was canceled. Some passengers said they were told to “go home and buy a ticket for another flight.”
A statement from Glasgow Airport said: “At around 6 am, Police Scotland attended the airport about a suspicious object in a passenger’s bag. We are liaising with the police and will provide an update as soon as we can,” Nova reports.
Some passengers say they first found out about the report of a suspicious package by reading about it online.
