On January 28, in Istanbul (Turkey), an armed attack occurred on the Church of St. Mary in the Sariyer district in the north of the city.
Armed masked men opened fire in the church during Sunday mass. As a result of the shooting, one person, a man born in 1972, died. The attackers managed to escape from the crime scene.
According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, the terrorists are linked to the Islamic State. The terrorist organization later claimed responsibility for the attack.
A few hours later, Turkish security forces detained suspects in the armed attack. Raids were carried out in more than 30 locations across Istanbul, and 47 people involved in the shooting were arrested.
