While experts and forecasters from around the world make frightening statements about mega-earthquakes around the globe, the affected areas of Turkey continue to shake aftershocks. “People no longer know where to run and what to do – they still haven’t recovered from the deadly earthquakes that caused massive destruction and left thousands of people homeless and in grief, and the aftershocks continue to exacerbate their problems,” writes the Turkish press.
Less than a month after the devastating earthquake on February 6, 13,000 aftershocks were registered in Turkey, the State Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) reported today.
The number of victims of last year’s tragedy exceeded 45 thousand people.
AFAD said in a statement that 13,000 earthquakes that should normally have been recorded within six months occurred in less than a month.
Meanwhile, aftershocks in the area continue.
Today at 1:26 p.m. local time (12:26 p.m. Kyiv time) a new magnitude 4 earthquake was registered in the Kahramanmaras region (southeastern Turkey). The epicenter of the earthquake was in the city of Dulkadiroglu, and the depth was 4.6 kilometers, reports AFAD.
