The Dane became the first person to visit every country without using airplanes. Thor Pedersen traveled continuously for 9 years, 7 months and 13 days.
Thor Pedersen, who previously worked as a sailor and peacekeeper for the UN, set off on October 10, 2013. His journey might have taken less time if he had not been forced to stay in Hong Kong for two years during the pandemic.
“I thought the journey would take a maximum of four years in total, maybe three and a half if I went a little faster,” he shares.
During the trip, the man not only set a world record, but also became a married man. He met his wife during the pandemic, when it was impossible to travel.
The wife did not go on the road with the man, but often visited him during the trip, using the plane. She said she admires her husband’s tenacity but is looking forward to “daily life together.”
Tom Pedersen has no plans to travel again anytime soon. Almost 10 years of constant travel with one stop in Hong Kong was a harsh experience that he remembered for a long time. And you hardly want to repeat it in the near future. Now a quiet family haven awaits the brave Dane.
However, his experience was not in vain. In addition to unforgettable emotions, he also collected enough material for a documentary. It will be released in wide release in 2024, but now you can watch the trailer.
