While climatologists are considering which resorts in the perspective of the next fifty years are at risk of going underwater a considerable number of resorts face the opposite problem. An extremely low tide was recorded at another resort popular with Ukrainians. This time we are talking about Egypt and its most famous resort, Sharm el-Sheikh.
According to the local press, the sea “went” in some places by 5-10 meters. It is also supported by tourists who show videos on social networks: “A few days ago the coastline was near the beach umbrellas, now you can walk through such hard sand almost to the depths,” one of the tourists shows and asks: “What is going on?”.
At the same time, the largest tides are recorded not only in the Red Sea but also in the Mediterranean. In Turkey, in the southwest province of Mugla, the Aegean Sea immediately receded by 50 meters. This phenomenal low tide was recorded on the coast of the town of Akyaka in the Ula district (Mugla province), located between two large resorts of the Aegean Sea – Bodrum and Marmaris. Residents say that this is the second time in a week that such a phenomenon has happened. And, although low tides occur every year in the same period, this one still turned out to be a record holder. In addition, residents are scared – is he a harbinger of an earthquake? Read what experts say about this in this DIP material.
On the other side of the Mediterranean Sea, in Italy, a phenomenal low tide again made an unpleasant surprise for tourists in Venice. Excursions are canceled, and traffic is stopped because the sea unexpectedly left the city. The canals in Venice have almost dried up in recent days due to strong tides and an extreme drop in the water level – it is recorded at half a meter below normal. This interferes with water taxis, gondolas, and city emergency services that use boats. And again, although this phenomenon has already occurred several times and just a few years ago, another drop in the sea level causes serious anxiety in the “city on the water”. Read details here.
