The rating of European cities that tourists consider to be the best in terms of price-quality ratio was topped by Croatian Zagreb. These statistics were provided by the service for tourists Mabrian. The Croatian capital bypassed such serious competitors as Rome, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Paris. The rating of the service evaluates three indicators: the number and quality of air connections, average hotel prices and the level of satisfaction of tourists.
So, according to tourists, the best value for money in June 2022 was in Zagreb, and it took first place. At the same time, the capital of Croatia is landlocked, and also one of the last in terms of air traffic. However, tourists have shown a high level of satisfaction, and Zagreb offers a very competitive price for accommodation compared to other destinations. Many tourist destinations were in the second five of the top ten precisely because of the astronomical prices of hotels caused by the corresponding tourist demand.
Athens came in second place – it slightly lost to Zagreb due to higher hotel prices and a lower level of tourist satisfaction. In third place is the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. It is distinguished by the most competitive – that is, the lowest – hotel prices. She ended up in third place due to limited air traffic.
11 more cities made it to Mabrian’s complete list of the best European tourist destinations. The rating leaders are distributed as follows:
- Zagreb (Croatia)
- Athens, (Greece)
- Ljubljana (Slovenia)
- Rome, (Italy)
- Vienna, (Austria)
- Lisbon (Portugal)
- Madrid (Spain)
- Milan (Italy)
- Dubrovnik (Croatia)
- Berlin, (Germany)
- Amsterdam (Netherlands)
- Paris, (France)
- Barcelona, (Spain)
- London, (Great Britain)
As Mabrian experts explained, well-known tourist cities are in second place in this ranking for several reasons. Firstly, due to the increased demand, they have high hotel prices. Secondly, the increased demand leads to a huge number of tourists in all tourist spots and places of interest, which again leads to high prices, as well as crowds and, as a result, a drop in tourist satisfaction.
