The flight of the British low-cost carrier, heading from Glasgow to Antalya, was forced to make an emergency landing at the Greek airport of Thessaloniki. The reason for the emergency change of course was a drunk 61-year-old tourist who attacked the flight attendant.
The incident took place last Sunday at around 10.30 pm when flight attendants were confronted by the woman’s “appalling and aggressive” actions. According to the carrier, which was published by the British newspaper The Sun, the traveler, who had gone through with alcohol, refused to obey the instructions of the staff and continued to behave aggressively even after being injured due to a fall during the event.
According to the Greek newspaper Protothema, the woman was charged with obstructing traffic, minor disorderly behavior on an aircraft during flight, and disobeying the pilot’s orders.
It was clarified that the passenger refused to apologize for her actions, as a result, she was arrested by the police for brawling after arriving at the Thessaloniki airport. Later, the passengers were transferred to another flight to continue their journey to Antalya, Turkey.
A representative of the Jet2 airline condemned the woman’s behavior and assured passengers that the boisterous tourist would no longer be allowed to fly with their airline.
“As a family-run airline, we have zero tolerance for disruptive behavior and we can ensure that the customer has been blacklisted for life. We also wanted to apologize to our travelers for the unpleasant experience and to assure that the safety and comfort of travelers remains our priority.” – said the representative of the low-cost carrier.
