The engine of a Southwest Airlines aircraft caught fire after the birds got there. The American airliner was flying from Havana to Fort Lauderdale in Florida, but due to an emergency, was forced to return to Cuba.
The footage shows how the plane was filled with smoke and the passengers in a panic and shouting began to put on oxygen masks.
“I felt a push and heard a sound like an explosion. I looked out the window and saw that the engine was on fire,” said one of the passengers on the liner. According to him, he hurried “for the last time” to write to his wife that he loves her.
The company later stated that after the landing of the liner, all passengers on the flight were evacuated and no one was injured.
“We understand this incident was disturbing. Southwest is working with local authorities regarding this event. We will continue to focus on the safety of our customers and crew,” the statement said.
Affected passengers will also receive a $300 voucher from Southwest Airlines due to the air emergency.
