The Maldives has reached the level of 1 million tourists in the same period as in 2019, State Minister of Tourism Ahmed Solih said at the ceremony to welcome the millionth tourist. These paradise islands are mainly supplied by tourists from India, Great Britain, and Russia. However, the millionaire tourist turned out to be a resident of continental Europe.
“The goal of one million tourist arrivals was achieved in the same period as in 2019. This shows the efforts being made to develop the industry. In the conditions of various crises around the world, Maldivian tourism is promoted and advertised taking into account the outgoing markets, which will respond positively,” said the head of the Ministry of Tourism.
At the same time, India remains in first place in terms of the number of tourists in 2022 with 140,000 tourists, followed by Great Britain with 110,000 tourists. Russia came in third place – 103,000 tourists arrived in the Maldives from the Russian Federation.
As Tourism Minister Ahmed Solih added, said he hoped the government would reach the target of 1.6 million tourism receipts set for 2022 as early as November this year. As for the ceremoniously welcomed millionth tourist, she turned out to be a citizen of the Czech Republic, 29-year-old Daniela Kilnarova.
