The main travel trends in 2023 were dictated by the lifting of COVID restrictions, a return to cruises, the growing popularity of individual travel, and the like. However, in 2024, new trends will begin to dominate, which directly follow the tourism trends of 2023.
Set-Jetting
One of the biggest trends for 2024 began to dominate earlier this year, with the rise in popularity of “sleep jetting,” or traveling to the locations where favorite TV shows and movies were filmed.
So, Sicily became popular in 2023 thanks to the success of the hit TV show “White Lotus”, Romania began to trend after the release of the popular series “Wednesday”, and travelers flocked to the French capital for their own “Emily in Paris” experience.
Search for alternatives
In 2024, budget travelers will be looking for more affordable alternatives to popular destinations that are more expensive and crowded. For example, in Greece Paros can replace Santorini, and in England – Liverpool instead of London. They offer a similar atmosphere and experience at a lower price and are also often less visited destinations that do not suffer the negative effects of over-tourism like their more popular counterparts.
Concert tourism
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, music lovers were virtually left without concerts for two years, so starting in 2023, when famous bands resumed tours and top festivals returned, they began to actively travel to other cities or even countries to see shows by their favorite performers. Thus, hundreds of thousands of fans around the world followed Taylor Swift on the Eras tour and Beyoncé on the Renaissance tour, with many superfans even booking trips to multiple concerts in different cities.
Looking for a “vibe”
When booking hotels, more and more tourists pay attention to the atmosphere that reigns there, and not just to the hotel’s rating or the amenities it offers. Although the concept of “mood” is somewhat ambiguous and difficult to define, many guests associate it with a hotel’s customer service, interior design, lighting, and music.
Traveling holidays
Travelers will look for any excuse to book a trip with friends, family, or a loved one, often tied to celebrating special occasions. And we’re not just talking about a honeymoon or a birthday trip. Also trending will be babymoons (the last vacation before the birth of a child), hen and stag parties, anniversaries, and much more.
