On the eve of the massive summer vacation, European tourists were warned which airlines often provide tourists with luggage problems. In the first place, almost as expected, was the low-cost carrier Ryanair. However, the famous Emirates, which is also used by Ukrainian tourists, was also included in the list.
The study was commissioned by luggage company Trifibre, which specializes in protective suitcases. According to its researchers, who in turn refer to data obtained from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), of the 823 claims of damaged luggage filed with airlines between 2015 and 2020, more than one in ten received baggage handling from Irish low-cost carrier. In second place, with 6% of Emirates, the third place went to bankrupt Alitalia – with 5% or 40 claims of damage to luggage.

Tourists were warned about the chances of success if you go to court for damaged luggage, “the chances of success are less than half.” But this will take a long time: on average, it takes 154 days to settle. And the record was set again by Ryanair – one tourist sued the carrier for 868 days for luggage – that is, the process took almost 2.5 years.
In addition to the obvious recommendation to take the most valuable and fragile things as hand luggage, the authors of the study also advised to conduct “preparatory work”. In particular, make sure that travel insurance covers the damage caused to your luggage, and have the right suitcase. Experts also reiterated the advice of porters – they recommend four-wheeled suitcases and advise not to overload them too much, because heavy bags are more likely to be damaged. Tourists are also advised to check their luggage immediately upon receipt – so more chances if something is lost, get compensation.
