The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, whose first masonry was made exactly 850 years ago, continues to correct its tilted position.
This information was confirmed by the representative of the complex of monuments in the main square of Pisa, Matilda Meucci.
According to her, “The tower remains in excellent condition and continues to reduce its angle of inclination. This process is carefully monitored both from the ground and with the help of satellites. Every year, the level of inclination is reduced by a few tenths of a millimeter.”
Celebrations to mark the 850th anniversary of the founding of this monument will take place throughout the year and will include workshops, exhibitions, and music concerts.
Recall that in 1990 the tower had to be closed to visitors due to the risk of collapse. Since then, work has been carried out to strengthen the foundation and install counterweights. In 2001, the Leaning Tower of Pisa was reopened to the public.
