The feeling of stuffiness in the ears during takeoff and landing, which often occurs, may persist for a long time after leaving the aircraft. However, there are a few simple ways to prevent discomfort and prevent your ears from “bursting”.
The stewardess from San Francisco shared her secrets in a video posted on social networks.
As the flight attendant explained, when the plane rises into the air or begins to descend, the air pressure in the cabin changes rapidly – this is the reason why tourists close their ears in the sky.
According to the airline employee, there are four ways that can help avoid unpleasant sensations:
- Have a snack. “Chewing gum, candy, cough lozenges seem to really help during takeoff or landing.”
- Use a nasal spray. “I always carry a nasal spray or medicine for a cold or sinusitis. If I feel stuffy during the flight, I always spray my nose, but it’s best to do it just before takeoff and about 30 minutes before landing, “said the girl.
- If a long time has passed since the airliner landed, and the ears are still closed, you should use another method. According to the flight attendant, after settling into the hotel, you need to immediately go to the bathroom and turn on the hot shower. After a while, the bath will turn into a steam bath – this effect is necessary, because the hot steam in ten minutes will not leave a trace of the problem with the ears.
- However, if these methods do not help, it is likely that the problem with the ears can be much more serious. In this case, you should seek medical help.
