British experts seem to have set themselves the goal of assuring their citizens and the world public that Orwell was writing a documentary chronicle. In their predictions, and for the near future, the horrors of the digital concentration camp are coming in an obvious way, and they start precisely with tourism: Britain, according to their predictions, will become the first country to introduce annual limits for tours of its citizens in connection with “carbon footprint norms” – i.e., it will no longer be possible to travel freely in and out of this country – only occasionally and only along a certain route. The so-called social rating and electronic passports with QR codes will help with this. And this will happen no later than 2040.
As the British publication Sun writes, the Intrepid Travel report, which contains all these forecasts, claims that radical measures can be taken after this summer — because forest fires in the Mediterranean have ruined thousands of vacations for Europeans. Personal carbon quotas may be introduced to reduce emissions, and we could see them by 2040. They will take the form of carbon passports that will force people to regulate their carbon emissions in line with a global carbon budget of 750 billion tonnes by 2050. By 2040, we can expect restrictions on the number of tours allowed each year,” climate scientists revel in their predictions and assure that tourists “will be forced to give up experiences that expand their horizons.”
Intrepid Travel asserts that climate activists, likely the same ones who glue themselves to highways and bully museums, will also create a group of people they call “travel transformers,” which in turn will spark the emergence of “restorative travel,” focusing attention to the social and ecological consequences of recreation. By the way, the so-called “sustainable tourism” is currently being promoted in many countries and is a harbinger of all these restrictions.
“By 2040, it will be unusual to see members of the Alpha generation without a carbon footprint tracker on their smartphones. Every Uber ride, plane flight, hotel stop, or trip to the supermarket will be recorded on their devices, noting their carbon footprint in real-time,” climatologists fantasize. Moreover, in their opinion, travel agencies and hotels “will be at the forefront of these changes”, adopting the slogan “look local and don’t go anywhere”.
So far governments have no plans to create or introduce carbon passports, the publication adds. However, the possibility of closing almost the entire globe to self-isolation also once seemed like a gloomy fantasy.
