In the struggle of tourists for a “place under the sun”, state bodies began to join, intending to defeat the invaders. So, on the beaches of famous Spanish resorts, a fight has begun against the so-called invaders of sunbeds, who seem to “reserve” them early in the morning with the help of towels: such tourists will be fined up to 300 euros.
According to the Sun, this upper limit of the fine was introduced by the Spanish resort of Torrox, which became the third city in the province of Malaga to introduce fines from 50 to 300 euros specifically for those who like to occupy the best places on the beach with towels. As the local authorities explained, the residents of the city are “fed up” with the manners of tourists – occupying seats on the beach from early in the morning, while tourists reserve sunbeds with towels and umbrellas and return to their hotels. They are tired of getting up before eight in the morning to take a seat, the publication says.
As a result, local authorities and local police have warned tourists that if they find items left unattended on the beach, they will have to wait one hour. If no one returns within this time, the items will be confiscated. To return them, tourists will have to go to the police station and pay a fine. If the confiscated items are not claimed within the next ten days, they will be destroyed.
At the same time, the city authorities listed that a fine will be imposed for reserving physical space on the beaches at any time of the day or night by placing any objects or objects (chairs, umbrellas, tables, tents, etc.) on the sand without the physical presence of the owner. By the way, similar bans are in place in the cities of Vélez and Algarrobo, and the authorities in Gandia, Torrevieja, Cullera, and Oropesa del Mar in Valencia, which also impose financial sanctions on offenders.
We will remind that hotels also “join the fight” with crazy tourists. A five-star hotel in Majorca, for example, in an original way rewarded an inventive tourist who got involved in a “war for sunbeds” on the side of the hotel. The tourist, who “cleaned” the sunbeds from the towels that were used to occupy them, was given a uniform, that is a hotel uniform, which gives the right to do this absolutely officially. The tourist himself found it amusing. According to the Spanish press, tourist Garfield spent his vacation in a five-star hotel in Majorca. And at some point it pissed him off that he could almost never find a free sun lounger to relax on. “We have been on vacation for several days and there was no way we could occupy a sun lounger by the pool. Everything was taken up with towels – and at the same time there were signs around asking not to borrow sunbeds. Finally, it made me angry – especially since my wife has a disability and it is not very easy for us to go looking for a sunbed,” said the tourist. As a result, he decided to take matters into his own hands. “On the fourth morning, I went down and took off all the towels on one of the sunbeds. And repeated the next morning. And I noticed that the hotel employee was watching me do it,” the tourist said. And the next morning, the employee surprised him with a gift – the tourist was given a hotel uniform. “It made me and what I was doing kind of official. And when angry tourists approached me, I ignored them and pointed to the signs that do not allow you to occupy sunbeds,” the tourist added. He also said that the gift pleased him a lot and “made his vacation unforgettable.”
