According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the epicenter was in eastern Turkey, 8 km southwest of Malatya, a city of about 440,000 inhabitants. The depth of the earthquake source was 17 km.

Recall that just the day before yesterday, on August 10, an earthquake of 5.3 magnitude was recorded in the same area, which led to the victims among the population – 23 people.
